Week 3 update

Player Reminder – Conceding Frames

It has been noted in recent matches that some players are conceding frames prematurely—either by offering a handshake or swiping the balls with their cue after their own shot—before allowing their opponent to complete their turn.

While it is understandable that players may feel the frame is effectively over, it is important to remember that results impact not only frame wins but also points difference. This can be crucial in determining the top 8 player standings and qualification for the end-of-season Divisional Masters. For this reason, opponents must be given the opportunity to complete their visit before a concession is made.

This is both a matter of snooker etiquette and a requirement under the League’s Code of Conduct, which can be found in the Documents section of this website.

Remember, players can refuse a handshake until after they’ve taken their turn.

Thank you for your cooperation and can I ask that captains brief their players on this rule.

Only concede a frame when it’s the start of your turn, not immediately after your shot. Your opponent must have the opportunity to proceed on their turn.

Division One Update

Division One’s standout moment this week came courtesy of Alfreton’s Terry Dowson, who opened his match against Brotherhood ‘B’ with a stunning 70 break that could take some beating. That spark of quality seemed to lift the whole team, as Alfreton ‘D’ went on to claim a dominant 5–0 win. Well played, Terry, and congratulations to the team.

Brotherhood ‘C’ also continued their perfect start to the season, securing back-to-back whitewashes. Their latest victims were New Whittington ‘B’, who found themselves swept aside by wins from Lee Hage, John Roseman, Matt Large, Duncan Waring, and Mark Hodgekinson. It’s clear the Clay Cross side have set an early benchmark for the rest of the division.

And in the Alfreton derby, following on from last season, team ‘B’ kept their incredible run alive, notching up their 26th consecutive win—a remarkable achievement by any standard.

Division Two update

Clowne ‘B’ hold onto a slender lead at the top of the division following their win over Doe Lea this week. There was still some encouragement for Doe Lea, with captain Baz Patilla posting a respectable 35 break, while newcomer Dave Austin—already making his mark in the league—sits top of the player standings after securing his third straight victory.

Elsewhere, it was club rivalry on show. Hasland ‘D’ claimed bragging rights over their ‘C’ side, while a resurgent Lennons ‘C’ swept aside team ‘F’ with a maximum-points performance.

Division Three update

Brotherhood ‘F’ and New Whittington ‘A’ remain level on points at the top of the division after meeting this week, though it was the Clay Cross side who narrowly took the win.

Brotherhood ‘D’ produced a more commanding performance against Hasland ‘B’, with victories from Andrew Bailey, Les Dillingham, Lee Shaw, and Robert Cook keeping them well in contention.

At Newbold Community, Alfreton’s rising stars made their mark. Riley Neale and Kai Hopkins both celebrated their first league wins of the season, before Nathan Brown sealed the match for Alfreton. Newbold hit back through Gino Travaglione and Ricky Strong, ensuring they took two points from the contest.

Competition Results

The standout competition match of the week came in the Harry Anderson Memorial, where Welcome’s Adam Clift faced Jack Johnson of Lennons SC. Clift delivered a dominant performance with a series of breaks, highlighted by a superb 79 break — the highest of the week. Outstanding scoring, Adam!

Elsewhere, in the Pairs Competition, Alfreton’s father-and-son duo, Rich and Rocco Amalou, showed real grit. After falling 2–0 behind against the experienced pairing of Jason Rimington and Gavin Cann, they staged a spirited comeback to snatch a 3–2 victory. A fantastic effort!
