Week 13 Update!

Premier Division

In a bottom-of-the-table clash, Alfreton ‘A’ and Lennons ‘B’ went head-to-head this week. Despite the home side falling 2–0 behind after decisive wins from Nathan Cooper and Darren Coop, Ian Rose sparked a spirited Alfreton comeback with a convincing victory over Steve Goodwin. Gary England and Jack Morton followed up with wins of their own, securing Alfreton’s third triumph of the season.

Alfreton SC ‘H’ faced a formidable task as they took on league leaders Welcome Inst ‘A’, and the challenge quickly became clear. The visitors stormed into a 4–0 lead with strong performances from Ash Walker, Tony Morgan, Dave Wilkinson and Guy Dennis. Fresh from being swept aside by Dennis, Rich England made another attempt to salvage a consolation frame for Alfreton—and succeeded, defeating Adam Clift to prevent a whitewash.

Division One

In a mid-table clash, YM ‘B’ looked to secure a fourth consecutive win and made an excellent start against New Whitt ‘B’. Comfortable victories for Matt Scraton and Lee Buckland put them firmly in control, and a third frame looked likely—until New Whitt’s Mark Nunn stole it at the death, potting the final black to edge out Graham Jones by a single point. The turnaround energised Martin Lawrence and Andy Marples, who closed out their frames to complete the comeback and seal the win for New Whitt.

Bottom-of-the-table Clowne continue to struggle as they suffer their fourth 4–1 defeat of the season. Meanwhile, Alfreton ‘B’ are quietly building momentum—could they yet mount a challenge for the leaders?

YM ‘C’s Lee Hage has reclaimed top spot in the player standings, bouncing back from last week’s disappointment with a strong win at Alfreton. YM ‘C’ themselves secured their ninth victory of the season, further reinforcing their dominance as the campaign progresses.

Division Two

Searching for some much-needed form, Lennons SC ‘F’—without a win since the opening week—took on a Hasland side seemingly fond of 3–2 score lines. The matchup promised to be tight, and it certainly delivered.

Lennons’ Jamie Luckman, also without a victory since the first fixture, faced the experienced Dave Vaulks, who took control early and left Luckman unable to respond. Hasland then doubled their lead with a clinical display from Mr. Treasurer, hinting at a comfortable night for the visitors.

But Lennons mounted a spirited fightback. Mikey Hogan, returning after a brief hiatus and determined to put recent losses behind him, produced an impressive performance to pull a frame back. Captain Mike Boden followed up with some composure, sealing the next frame with a tidy 32 break to force a decider.

In the final frame, Adam Moss—buoyed by his earlier win—took on newcomer Kev Ryan. Eager to make his mark on the league, Ryan proved too strong and secured Lennons’ second victory of the season. They’ll now hope this result provides the momentum they need to push forward.

Grassmoor’s impressive charge continues as they move level with Lennons ‘C’ at the top of the table following a narrow 3–2 victory away at Hasland ‘D’. It’s proving to be a fiercely competitive division overall, with just seven points separating the top five teams.

Division Three

Hasland ‘B’, determined to improve on their early-season 4–1 defeat to Alfreton ‘F’, delivered a much stronger performance this time, edging a narrow 3–2 victory. Wins from Steven Moss, Daryl Turner and Ian Jolly secured Hasland their fourth win of the campaign. Alfreton captain Paul Sainsbury, ever consistent, and Jack Lowe claimed the remaining points for the visitors, keeping them firmly in the promotion race.

Mid-table YM Brotherhood ‘D’ earned another 3–2 victory, this time over Newbold CA ‘C’. They’ll be hoping a strong second half of the season propels them into contention with the division’s frontrunners.

League leaders Brotherhood ‘F’ have been in dominant form since losing on opening week of the season, stringing together an impressive 10 straight wins. Their match against Alfreton ‘C’ went down to a final-frame decider, with Brian Fullard sealing another victory for the Clay Cross side. They now sit just a couple of points away from securing top spot heading into the Christmas break.

Division Four

It was a strong week for the Lennons squads, as both Team G and Team J recorded impressive 4–1 victories over their respective opponents. The wins leave just two points separating the pair, with Team G holding a slight edge over their clubmates.

YM ‘H’s defeat to Lennons G has opened the door for the chasing pack, particularly with the four teams behind them all holding a game in hand over the league leaders. Once again, this format highlights just how tight and competitive these divisions can be.

In the player standings, the two Ashes remain inseparable at the top. It will be fascinating to see how this battle develops—and whether anyone else can step up to challenge the division’s in-form duo.

Competitions Update!

With only a few weeks remaining in the current round of competitions, there were just a handful of fixtures played this week.

The standout tie came in the Team of Three competition between YM Brotherhood ‘D’ and Alfreton ‘F’. Handicaps suggested a tight contest, though early signs hinted at a different story as the Clay Cross side raced into a 3–0 lead, needing only a single frame to clinch victory. However, despite admitting they weren’t at their best, the Alfreton trio found some form and began their fightback—kick-started by Division Three’s in-form player, Paul Sainsbury.

Mark Taylor and Shane Miles then levelled the match at 3–3, setting up a tense deciding frame. The players for the decider were drawn at random, with Callum Greenfield facing Paul Sainsbury. In keeping with the rest of the match, the final frame was tight throughout, but it was the Alfreton player who held his nerve and sealed the win on the final black.

Remarkably, after seven frames, just four aggregate points separated the sides—about as close as it gets. A terrific match all round!

In the Harry Anderson competition, Welcome’s Guy Dennis produced the league’s highest break of the week, a superb 71 against Dan Barnes. Excellent work, Guy!
