Week 14 & 15 Update!

Harrison bags his 2nd CDSL century!

James Harrison, Welcome Inst ‘A’

As the first half of the season wraps up, we finish with a touch of magic. Welcome’s James Harrison pulled off an impressive 108 break in his 3-0 victory over Rob Morley in the Romley Caravan Classic Pre-Lim round.

This marks Harrison’s second century in the Chesterfield & District Snooker League and the league’s 112th overall – congratulations, James!

Premier Division

The Welcome’s only defeat in the first half of the season came against The Clock Tower back in October. When the two sides met again this week, the Sutton team turned the tables, reversing the previous 3-2 score line. The standout moment came from unbeaten Ash Walker, who was in fine form, producing two decisive breaks against Dave Pagett, who himself has been in superb scoring form recently, but only managed to pot just a single point on this occasion.

In the opening frame, Shaun Wilkes’s victory over Tony Morgan keeps him firmly at the top of the player standings heading into the festive break.

The win also puts the Welcome at the top of the division for Christmas, and their four-point lead could prove crucial later in the season.

Meanwhile, over at Brotherhood, the A team delivered another strong showing, securing their first whitewash of the season, producing some consistent heavy scoring against a struggling Lennons ‘B’ side. With only one win so far, they’ll be hoping the new year brings renewed confidence and more frames on the board.

The Clay Cross team now sit just five points behind the leaders and have firmly staked their claim as title contenders.

Division One

There were two sets of home derby matchups this week. First, at Alfreton SC, team D, whose results of late have followed an alternating pattern of 4-1 wins and losses, stayed true to form by bouncing back from last week’s defeat with a 4-1 victory over team ‘B’. Their promotion hopes remain alive.

In the YM clash, leaders team ‘C’ extended their winning streak with a tight 3-2 win over team ‘B’. With both top players in the standings winning, there’s still no separating them, and team B’s Andrew Frisby holds the bragging rights over clubmate Lee Hage—for now.

Back at Alfreton, team ‘G’ gave their survival chances a boost, nearly whitewashing Clowne Liberal ‘A’. Returning player Alex Radford set the tone with his fifth win of the season and a solid 32 break against Clowne captain Scott Anson. Pat Dillan salvaged a point for the visitors with a tense black ball finish against Adam West, avoiding the dreaded whitewash.

Division Two

In a fiercely competitive division, just four points separate the top five teams, setting up an exciting second half of the season. Lennons SC ‘C’, dominant for most of the campaign, have now suffered their fourth straight defeat, giving Grassmoor WMC and Clowne Liberal ‘B’ a chance to close in.

Hasland ‘C’ sit just one point ahead of their clubmates, team ‘D’, after a commanding 4-1 victory over Lennons ‘C’. The player standings are just as tight, with Grassmoor’s Deano Hancock’s seven-match winning streak putting him top for Christmas, but everything is still up for grabs in this closely fought division.

Division Three

Brotherhood ‘F’ wrapped up the first half of the season with an impressive 11-week winning streak, heading into the new year at the top—great effort, chaps!

Meanwhile, challengers Alfreton ‘F’ suffered their third consecutive defeat but remain within striking distance of the leaders, while New Whitt ‘A’ have hit their stride with three straight victories.

In the player standings, despite only his second loss of the season, Alfreton’s Paul Sainsbury holds onto the top spot on points difference, closely followed by Keith Chaplin and Lee Buckland.

Division Four

Division four is shaping up to be a tale of two battles. At the bottom, the last two teams are locked in their own fight to avoid finishing last, with Alfreton ‘E’ holding a slight edge despite a 4-1 defeat this week. At the top, just 2 points separate the leading five sides in an incredibly tight race, with Lennons ‘J’ and YM ‘G’ in red-hot form after winning their last four games each.

In the player standings, Lennons’ Ash Radford continues to dominate, holding onto the top spot at the midway point of the season.

Competitions Update!

The headline this week is the outstanding century break from Jim Harrison, produced during his 3–0 victory over Rob Morley. Harrison also added a composed 43 break, underlining the excellent scoring form he is currently enjoying. A superb performance—well done, Jim!

Also in fine form were David Birley and Kurtis Norman, who booked their place in the semi-finals of the Pairs competition with a solid 3–1 win over Alfreton ‘C’ duo Bullock and Brown.

In the Geoff Hardy competition, Division Two’s Deano Hancock continued the impressive run that saw him reach last season’s Handicap final and currently places him top of the player standings. Deano recorded the highest break of the competition so far—great work.

I’d like to thank all players involved in the competitions for their commitment to getting matches played on time. With a busy fixture schedule, organising games can be challenging, but everyone has done an excellent job so far—your efforts are much appreciated.

All competitions will be redrawn at the end of December, including the start of the Scotch Doubles. A reminder that each round will now carry a four-week deadline, so it will be important to arrange fixtures promptly to stay on schedule.

Keep up the great work, and I’d like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
