Week 1 update

With the new season underway, the league also welcomes fresh faces to its committee. Alfreton’s Dean Bullock steps in as an officer, while the roles of Chairman and Vice-Chairman are taken up by YM Brotherhood’s Duncan Waring and Clowne’s Chris Field respectively. We wish them every success in their positions, and no doubt you’ll meet them during your travels around the league.

This season also brings a host of new teams and players to the competition. We extend a warm welcome to them all and wish every player and side—old and new—the very best for the campaign ahead.

Please feel free to help us with our weekly updates by sending in your match reports to Stuart and also any photos-We’d love to see them!

Premier Division Update

The YM Brotherhood ‘A’ team made a superb start to the season, kicking off their campaign with an impressive 4–1 victory over last year’s runners-up. Strong wins from Martin Burrell, Kieron Stevenson, Rob Mullis, and Jonathan Hall ensured the Clay Cross side claimed top spot in the opening week. Clock Tower’s new signing, Shaun Wilkes, secured a consolation frame and impressed with a composed 50 break.

Meanwhile, in Alfreton, nerves were evident as both teams battled through a tense opener. Newly formed Alfreton ‘H’ settled best, sealing a 4–1 win against newly promoted Lennons ‘B’. The standout moment came from Alfreton’s Dale Schofield, who produced a solid 40 break to cap off the performance.

Division One Update

The standout team this week was YM Brotherhood ‘C’. The newly promoted side went head-to-head with Alfreton SC ‘D’, a well-established first-division outfit. But the Clay Cross team showed no fear, brushing aside their opponents with a dominant 5-0 victory. The star of the match was Brotherhood’s own Mark Hodgekinson, who racked up an impressive 100 points against Gareth Clarke, highlighted by a smooth 48 break. Outstanding performance, Mark!

Alfreton SC ‘G’ enjoyed better fortunes than their clubmates, securing a 4-1 win over last season’s runners-up, New Whittington ‘B’. Wins from Adam West, Dave Neale, Jesse Byrne, and captain Stuart Smith sealed the result for the Alfreton side.

Division Four update

Alfreton ‘E’s, Louis Oughton playing professional, Dave Gilbert

It’s been a memorable week for one of the league’s youngest new faces. Ten-year-old Louis Oughton of Alfreton, fresh from an exhibition match last Saturday night at Alfreton SC against world number 24 Dave Gilbert, marked the start of his league journey on Wednesday with a debut victory for the newly formed Alfreton ‘E’ side.

With it being a school night, Louis was placed first in the order against Kevin Conlon of Newbold WMC. Few would have expected the contest to go the distance, but the frame came down to a tense black-ball finish. Showing remarkable composure, the youngster coolly sank the decisive pot to secure his maiden league win and put Alfreton ‘E’ on course for their first team victory- Congratulations Louis.

Louis is one of six promising juniors from the Alfreton SC junior club, run by Alan Crownshaw, who are taking part in this season’s campaign – great to see such young talent stepping onto the league stage.

Elsewhere, Lennons ‘J’ got their campaign off to a strong start. A side that has shown steady improvement in recent years, they cruised to a comfortable 4-1 win over newly-entered YM Brotherhood ‘H’, a result that puts them briefly top of the table in these early stages.
