A New Tradition Begins: First Annual Golf Day

Chesterfield & District Snooker League Launches First Ever Golf Day

Led by league chairman Duncan Waring, players from the Chesterfield & District Snooker League swapped their cues for clubs this week, taking part in the league’s first ever golf society day at the stunning Matlock Golf Course.

The club extended a warm welcome to all involved, making for a fantastic pre-season get-together as players look ahead to the 2025/26 snooker campaign. Before tackling the challenging 18-hole, 6,000-yard course on the edge of the picturesque Peak District, players enjoyed food and refreshments kindly provided by the hosts.

Meanwhile, I remained in the clubhouse alongside league vice-chairman and event sponsor Chris Field of AC Aerials, eagerly awaiting the players’ return and the all-important scorecards. As each group made their way back, it was clear that the course had tested even the most seasoned golfers. Spirits, however, remained high as players shared stories of their rounds over a well-deserved pint.

Using the Stableford singles scoring system, results were compiled and announced, with every participant earning praise for putting together a solid performance.

Winner: Alexander Waring (YM Brotherhood, Clay Cross) – 42 points
Runner-Up: Alex Radford (Alfreton SC) – 40 points

Both players gratefully accepted their prize money and trophies from sponsor Chris Field-Well done to the Alex’s!

A special mention must also go to Darren Coop, who produced an outstanding round with a gross score of 67 (-3 under par) – a truly remarkable effort.

The day was a resounding success and marks the beginning of what we hope will become a new annual tradition for the league. Here’s to building on this fantastic start and firmly establishing the golf day in our sporting calendar.
