Welcome Institute Clinch the Briggs Snooker & Pool Group One Team Knockout Title
The Welcome Institute wrapped up their team season in style, defeating a spirited Newbold CA side in the final of the Briggs Snooker & Pool Group One Team Knockout competition. It was a fitting finale, with both teams having topped their respective divisions and aiming to complete a coveted league and knockout double.
Ultimately, it was the Sutton-based Welcome Institute who triumphed, securing the double for the second time in just three seasons — a truly impressive achievement.
The Welcome made a strong start, with Ash Walker and Jim Harrison producing dominant performances against Kieron Wood and Rob Morley, putting early pressure on Newbold. Those opening frames proved decisive, as the following two frames saw the aggregate points shared, with Mark Nunn and Steve Goodwin holding their own to keep Newbold's hopes alive.
Facing a 69-point deficit going into the final frame, Gary Scott had a monumental task ahead. Despite a determined and spirited effort, the gap proved insurmountable. After a hard-fought frame, Gary graciously conceded to Adam Clift, prompting warm applause as all players congratulated one another on a well-contested final.
With team duties now complete, players from both sides will turn their focus to the upcoming individual finals, where more silverware awaits. Best of luck to everyone competing!
