Week 20 Update.

Premier Division

It proved to be a slight setback this week for YM ‘A’, who had been making solid progress in their pursuit of the division’s top two. Their momentum was halted with a tough trip to the Welcome Institute, where they suffered a whitewash against a side showing no signs of easing their grip on the title race.

Over in Alfreton, the ‘A’ team opened up a bit of daylight between themselves and team ‘H’ with an assured display in the club derby, running out comfortable 4–1 winners. Jack Morton set the tone from the opening frame, looking in complete control from the first ball. Breaks of 40 and 28 left his opponent, Dale Schofield, with no reply. Schofield was straight back into action against Kyle Ryde, who picked up where he left off last season and compounded a night to forget for Dale.

Team ‘H’ did manage to get on the scoreboard through Rich England, who defeated Ben Monk, but it proved to be little more than consolation. Adam Cupit and Ian Rose wrapped up the remaining two frames to secure Alfreton ‘A’’s first victory over their clubmates this season.

Division One

Alfreton ‘G’ recorded back-to-back victories for the first time this season, with both wins coming against fellow club teams. Their latest 3–2 success over Alfreton ‘D’ lifts them into mid-table and continues their upward momentum.

New Whittington ‘B’ are clearly finding their rhythm, with victory over Clowne extending their winning run to seven matches. That consistent form is slowly closing the gap on second-placed Alfreton ‘D’ and keeping the pressure firmly on the teams above.

League leaders YM ‘C’ returned to winning ways on their travels to Alfreton. Despite falling 2–0 behind following wins from Scott Twells and Rocco Amalou—who sealed his frame against Matt Large with a tidy 35 clearance—the Clay Cross side showed their resilience. They responded strongly, claiming the remaining three frames to maintain their grip on top spot. With an important game in hand, they still hold a valuable advantage over their nearest challengers.

In the players’ standings, YM ‘B’’s Andrew Frisby moves back to the top of the table, edging ahead of Lee Hage by the narrowest of margins—a single green ball difference.

Division Two

In a bottom-of-the-table clash, Lennons ‘F’ swapped places with Doe Lea after recording a decisive 4–1 victory. Building on his win last week, Jamie Luckman secured back-to-back wins, while further points from Shaun Donaldson, Mikey Hogan, and stand-in captain Kev Ryan provided a much-needed confidence boost for a side that has struggled up to now.

Clowne ‘B’ also returned to winning ways with a victory over Hasland ‘C’. Despite the result, the division remains wide open, with the chasing pack holding a game in hand over the current leaders.

In the players’ standings, Grassmoor’s Brian James makes a notable move, climbing three places to sit just behind team-mate and table-topper Deano Hancock.

Division Three

With the top three teams all recording narrow 3–2 victories this week, it’s very much as you were at the top of the team standings.

The players’ standings also remain unchanged at the summit. Further down the table, James Kay and Daryl Turner swap positions, while at the lower end Kai Hopkins climbs a place. Team-mate Nathan Brown also makes a move, edging his way into the final Masters qualification spot.

It serves as a timely reminder for anyone with aspirations of reaching the end-of-season Masters competition: every frame—and every ball—can prove vital when it comes to the final standings

Division Four

Division Four saw a reduced schedule this week, with only two fixtures played due to medical issues affecting YM ‘G’.

YM ‘H’ produced a dominant display, handing Alfreton ‘E’ a 5–0 defeat—mirroring the scoreline Lennons ‘G’ inflicted last week—and in the process returned to the top of the division.

Despite two difficult weeks, Alfreton ‘E’ remain locked together with Newbold WMC in what is shaping up to be a two-team battle to avoid the bottom spot by season’s end.

Elsewhere at Lennons, YM ‘E’ edged a closely fought encounter to keep themselves within touching distance of the top two. With plenty of matches still to play, the race remains wide open.

In the players’ standings, Andrew Shepherd’s win over Paul Mace lifts him up to second place. Meanwhile, despite having a week off, Lennons ‘G’’s Ash Radford remains firmly at the top of the table.
