Lennons ‘J’ lift maiden trophy
Club mates go head-to-head in cup showdown
Group 2 Team Knockout champions, Lennons SC ‘J’
Left to right: Richard Prince, (Chairman and sponsor, Duncan Waring), Jack Mace, Barbara Shillaker, Paul Mace, Dan Hickman & Dan Barnes.
Last night’s Team KO Final at YM Brotherhood delivered exactly what the season had been hinting at , a proper shootout between club rivals Lennons ‘J’ and Lennons ‘G’.
These two have been inseparable all year in Division 4 of the Chesterfield & District Snooker League. ‘J’ held the slight edge in the head-to-head (3–1), but the bigger stat tells the real story — across 20 frames this season, both teams scored exactly 765 points each. Zero difference. That’s not just close , that’s ridiculous. So a tight final? Always on the cards.
Lennons ‘G’ came in as division champions, already securing promotion and chasing a classy double. But ‘J’ had other ideas.
Darren Hemingray got ‘G’ moving early in the opener, only for league newcomer Jack Mace to produce a composed clearance of the colours, nicking the frame and handing ‘J’ a 27-point advantage. Big moment.
‘G’ hit straight back. Dennis Rodgers, as dependable as ever, completely controlled his frame against Dan Barnes, cruising to a 99–13 win and swinging momentum right back.
But then came the key phase. ‘J’ dug in and took the next two frames through Paul Mace and Richard Prince. Suddenly, the double dream for ‘G’ was on life support.
That left it all riding on the final frame — and it didn’t disappoint.
Ian North stepped up for ‘G’ facing an 83-point deficit against Dan Hickman. On paper, that’s game over. In reality? Not quite. Ian started chipping away, break by break, dragging himself back into contention. By the colours, he still needed multiple snookers — and somehow, he got close. One foul away from turning it.
But Dan Hickman held his nerve when it mattered most. A clean blue steadied everything, and although Ian chased one last snooker, a fluked pink ended the fight.
Game over.
Lennons ‘J’ take the title by just 21 points — a final that lived up to every bit of the hype.
Massive credit to both sides. ‘G’ take the league title and promotion, ‘J’ take the KO honours. Between them, they’ve defined the season for Lennons SC.
Cracking stuff.
Thank you to our referee, Ian Rose and also to YM Brotherhood for sponsoring and hosting the final.
