Lennons B end season on a high
SCOTT SINKS THE MATCH BALL AS LENNONS CLAIM THE BRIGGS SNOOKER AND POOL GROUP ONE TEAM KO TITLE
Champions, Lennons SC ‘B’
The final ball of the 2025/26 Chesterfield & District Snooker League season proved every bit as dramatic as the season itself, as Lennons SC 'B' edged out YM Brotherhood 'B' to lift the Group One Team KO Trophy at Alfreton SC.
It was fitting that these two sides were entrusted with bringing the curtain down on another memorable campaign. The atmosphere throughout the evening was excellent, with the camaraderie between the two respected teams evident from the outset. Despite the prize at stake, the match was played in fantastic spirit and was a credit to everyone involved.
Both teams had their own motivations for ending the season on a high. Lennons were looking to soften the disappointment of relegation from the Premier Division, while YM Brotherhood had enjoyed another strong campaign in Division One, narrowly missing out on a place in the promotion play-offs.
It was Brotherhood who made the brighter start.
Lee Buckland got YM up and running with a victory over Lennons captain Kieron Wood, helped along by a classy 44 break, which would stand as the highest break of the evening. Andrew Frisby, who topped the Division One player statistics this season, then produced another excellent performance to extend the advantage and put his side firmly in control.
With Brotherhood building momentum, the third frame already felt pivotal.
Step forward Daz Coop.
Facing Matt Scraton, Coop delivered exactly what Lennons needed. Not only did he win the frame, but he did so by a significant margin, swinging the aggregate scores back towards his side and breathing fresh life into the contest.
The momentum continued when Jay Renshaw edged out the experienced Graham Jones, leaving the final hanging beautifully in the balance. After four frames and hours of hard-fought snooker, just four aggregate points separated the teams.
A season's work would come down to one final frame.
As the clock edged towards 11pm, Gary Scott and Martin Conway took centre stage. Two competitors known for their battling qualities, neither man was prepared to give an inch. The frame ebbed and flowed, with chances appearing and disappearing for both players, while some excellent safety exchanges kept everyone guessing.
As the colours disappeared, the tension only increased.
Then came the chance.
A slightly loose safety from Conway left the black near the middle pocket. It looked inviting, but with the match, the trophy and the final moments of the season resting on one shot, there was still plenty to do.
Scott approached the table, settled himself, then stepped away for a moment to gather his thoughts. The room fell silent. Teammates, opponents and spectators alike watched on.
Back down on the shot, he calmly rolled the black into the pocket.
Match over. Season over.
The celebrations from the Lennons camp were immediate, while their opponents responded with the warm applause and sportsmanship that had characterised the evening from start to finish.
Congratulations to Lennons SC 'B', who finish the season with silverware in what has undoubtedly been a bittersweet campaign.
Commiserations also go to YM Brotherhood 'B', who played their full part in a terrific final and can look back on an excellent season with plenty of pride.
Finally, thank you to Adam Cupit and Ian Rose for sharing refereeing duties, to our hosts Alfreton SC, and to competition sponsors Briggs Snooker & Pool for their continued support.
And with that final black ball potted, another chapter of Chesterfield & District Snooker League history comes to a close.
