Buckland takes the Division One Masters title.
Today saw the start of the end-of-season Divisional Masters competitions, where the top eight players from each division — after months of battling through a long season — arrived at Alfreton SC with one shared goal: earning the ultimate bragging rights in their division.
Qualification alone is no small achievement. Every player had earned their place through consistency across the season, but with knockout snooker, reputations count for very little once the first ball is struck.
The prize? Not only the title of 2026 Division One Masters Champion, but also a coveted place in next season’s Champion of Champions competition. Plenty on the line — and no shortage of motivation.
After a full day of competition, the final saw two familiar faces and club rivals go head-to-head, as YM Brotherhood’s Lee Buckland (‘B’) faced John Roseman (‘C’). While local bragging rights may well have been at stake, the match itself was played in excellent spirit, with plenty of mutual respect shown throughout.
Roseman looked to have one hand on the trophy after edging into a 2–1 lead, helped along by the highest break of the day — a superb 55. But finals have a habit of turning when you least expect it.
To his credit, Buckland dug deep. Refusing to let the moment slip away, he levelled the match to force a deciding frame before holding his nerve when it mattered most, completing a fine comeback to secure a 3–2 victory and claim the Division One Masters title for the very first time.
Congratulations to Lee Buckland — a thoroughly deserved champion.
